General Position Summary
The General Superintendent is responsible for field operations on the project(s) assigned in order to achieve timely and profitable completion of each project. The General Superintendent directly supervises field labor force, including laborers/craft workers, subcontractors and non-craft personnel assigned to the project. This position must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and time management skills, as well as have strong communication and client service skills. Ability to travel is a must.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Direct day-to-day on-site supervision of field labor force
Inspection of Contractor or (Sub)Contract operations to ensure compliance with Contract
Manage contract with owner including change orders, communications and notice provisions
Review and approve items with Project Manager or CM/PX/VP
Maintain good relationships with internal and external clients as well as local Business Agents
Knowledge of craft jurisdictions
Lead pre-job conferences
Develop and maintain site logistics plan, in coordination with Project Manager
Conduct quality inspections
Coordinate site testing and inspection efforts
Manage all costs, including labor time, subcontractors, equipment and material
Communicate and enforce Skanska Safety and Health Management Program
Develop and implement site specific SHEMS program
Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment through own actions and mentoring others
Manage schedules, including preparation of detailed short-term schedules and ensuring all activities take place on or ahead of scheduled dates
Prepare and submit Superintendent’s Daily Reports
Prepare estimates as required for work execution and changes
Manage and coordinate lift plans in accordance with the Project Manager
Attend and participate in project meetings, including subcontractor meetings
Manage 3 rd party and company owned equipment and small toolsThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this classification. Strong knowledge of labor productivity reporting and analysis
Excellent project controls acumen to support project progress updates, costs and schedule
Understanding of contract documents, including general terms and conditions
Ability to estimate and price work, as required
Computer proficient and the ability to adapt to new innovations and processes
Broad understanding of industry
Working knowledge of scheduling software
Strong written, communication, and math/accounting skills
Strong management and problem solving skills
Functions effectively as part of a team
Exhibits strong leadership qualities
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
Excellent time management and organizational skills Education & Experience
15 Years of related construction experience demonstrating increasing responsibility and career growth; emphasis on labor relations
Bachelor of Science Construction, Business, or Engineering preferred, but experience may be considered in lieu of
Thorough knowledge of construction industry including equipment, labor, means and methods, codes and standards
Excellent knowledge with all aspects of construction safety
OSHA and First Aid/CPR Training
Work Environment/Job Conditions
This job is performed both in the office and in the field. Field work requires experience and confidence working in and around heavy industrial equipment, systems and conditions is required. Activities and responsibilities require frequent sitting (often working on a computer), frequent driving, flying, walking, standing, light lifting, bending, and reaching. Due to tool and computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists. Travelling is required to support our jobs.
