Gillman Home Center Assistant Manager in Gas City, Indiana

The Assistant Mgr position is responsible for providing excellent customer service and treating our employees as our #1 priority.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides excellent customer service to team members, customers and vendors.

  • Greets and assists customers in a positive, approachable manner. Answers questions and resolves customer concerns.

  • Maintains a positive presence in the store by providing excellent customer service.

  • Ensures a clean, well-stocked store for customers.

  • Manages inventory level to keep optimal amount of stock on hand to maximize turns and profit while maintaining enough stock for customers.

  • With guidance from store manager, helps supervise, train and develop store team members on policies and procedures.

  • Assists in unloading all merchandise from the delivery truck, organizes merchandise and transfers merchandise from stockroom to store.

  • Assists store manager with ordering merchandise and record keeping. This can include payroll, scheduling, cash register deposits and receipts.

  • Supports store manager in loss prevention efforts.

  • Assumes certain management responsibilities in absence of store manager.

  • Upholds safety standards and helps administer safety training.

  • Follows all company policies and procedures.

  • Maintains an assigned department.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position manages all store and yard staff.

Abilities:

  • Ability to process information/merchandise through system and POS Register system.

  • Ability to communicate with team members and guests.

  • Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation.

  • Ability to freely access all areas of the store including selling floor, stock area and register area.

  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run a store.

  • Ability to climb ladders.

  • Ability to move or transfer merchandise throughout the store generally weighing 0 - 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary. Must be available to work nights and weekends.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 3 + years of Retail Experience (preferred in hardware/lumber industry)

  • Experience supervising employees a plus.

  • Management experience a plus.
