Horizon Bank Mortgage Loan Underwriter II in Michigan City, Indiana

JOB OVERVIEWResponsible for underwriting Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA and Construction Mortgage Loan files in compliance with Investor Guidelines. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, company policies and established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Manage construction loans in process and repair escrow accounts; analyze and disposition draws submitted for approval. Work within a team to ensure loans progress through the pipeline efficiently and effectively and that loans close within the rate lock period.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIESAccurately underwrite files to ensure underwriting and appraisal unit volume repurchase and indemnification by an investor or agency are below defined targets and completed within the required timeframes. Represent the Bank to both internal and external customers in a courteous, professional manner in face-to-face, written and telephone communications. Accountable for adherence to compliance standards including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), quality of documentation, timeliness and volume of loans closed. Actively protect confidentiality of customer and account information. Demonstrate Horizon Bank's commitment to the communities in which we serve through active involvement in local organizations and events.DUTIESi Underwrite loans submitted to the Underwriting Que by the processorii Examine and verify authenticity of documents submitted for determination within the established timeframei Review documents to ensure all Red Flags have been addressed and mitigatedi Analyze, review, document and approve all income, asset and credit documents in the file.i Analyze loan details and borrower relationships with Horizon Bank to determine if Aggregate Credit Exposure (ACE) or Exception Worksheets must be prepared and approvedi Analyze, review, document and approve appraisals with regard to comparable selection, exhibits, attachments and methodology using CU, VA LSAM and FHA EADi Adhere to the SOP guidelines for underwriting loans, clearing conditions, approving and denying loans and approving construction loan draws.i Adhere to Retail Mortgage Policies including but not limited to Loan Authority, Desirable Loan Types, Market Area-Geographic, Underwriting Criteria, Construction Loans, Construction Loan Disclosure, Approvals/Adverse Actions, Real Estate Appraisals/Appraiser Independence, Undesirable Properties, Survey Requirement, Title Insurance, Hazard Insurance, Mortgage Insurance, Flood Insurance, and Escrows.i Minimize stipulations by underwriting files to investor and agency overlays; clear stipulations within the specified periodi Responsible for Reg B compliance, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of adverse action decisionsii Input data in AUS (Automated Underwriting System) for data integrityi Communicate regularly with internal and external customers regarding progress of loan approval, loan conditions, appraisal approvals and denials.ii Report suspicious transactions or unusual occurrences to supervisor.i Conduct and document periodic audit findings presented by internal audit, outside audit companies, Mortgage Insurance companies, Investors and/or Agencies as requested.ii Perform all work in compliance with established regulations, policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and instructions.ii Maintain customer confidence and protect bank operations by keeping information private and confidential.i Attain and maintain all required certifications.ii Participate in ongoing skill, compliance, product, market, risk management and security training as required for the position and apply knowledge in performance of daily tasksi Provide coverage for Consumer and Mortgage Appraisal Review Specialist and adhere to job responsibilities as needed.i Other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS and SKILLSi High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in business, finance or related field of study preferred.ii Minimum of 2 years' experience underwriting mortgage loans to secondary marke
