Midwest Psychological Center Recreation Specialist in PLAINFIELD, Indiana
The Midwest Psychological Center is seeking a full time Recreation Specialist to work at the Heritage Trail Correctional Facility in Plainfield, IN. Applicant must have a Bachelorand#39;s Degree. Experience working in a correctional setting is also preferred. SummaryResponsible for implementation and operation of the facility recreation program that includes activities for all inmates. Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelops, plans and monitors a wide variety of recreational activities, passive and active, indoor and outdoor.Schedules inmates for passive and active recreation, indoors and outdoors, assuring that the recreation program is available during times when inmates are not participating in work/academic assignments.Plans a program of tournaments in a variety of recreational activities, both passive and active.Ensures that proper equipment is available and in good repair and devises a system for equipment checkout and return.Encourages inmates to be involved in recreational activities in order to develop and foster sportsmanship, camaraderie, and a sense of fair play among inmates.Uses the recreational program as a vehicle to develop a team spirit and an atmosphere of cooperation within the facility.Works with community volunteers to give them training and encouragement in bringing special programs to the inmates, i.e., crafts, art, etc.Submits reports and other data as required.Consults with other members of the Programs and Security Departments in order to develop a team approach to inmate needs.Helps inmates understand and experience the fact that exercise and participation in sports is a healthy way to release negative emotions.Helps to enforce rules and regulations of the facility. Minimum RequirementsA Bachelorand#39;s degree in Physical education, recreational therapy or related field is required.Prior experience working with an inmate population or in a physical education program is highly desirable.
